up to no good

“I bet you were such a naughty kid,” Nami said, sunbathing on her deckchair. Luffy was attempting to see how many of Sanji’s cigarettes he could place on Zoro’s head before Zoro woke up and noticed. Nami didn’t hold out much hope for him; if Zoro didn’t notice first, Sanj sure would. The man loved his cigarettes.

“Eh. You think I was bad? You should’ve seen Ace and Sabo,” Luffy said. He was up to cigarette number five. “They always got told off by Dadan.”

Nami smiled. Luffy didn’t talk about his brothers a whole lot, so it always felt like he was sharing a somewhat locked part of himself with them when he did. “Dadan?”

“Yeah! She’s a mountain bandit that looked out for us three. She sure was funny! I wonder how she’s going.”

Zoro’s hand shot out as he grabbed hold of Luffy’s wrist, preventing him from sticking another cigarette in his hair. He glared at Luffy. “Better now that she’s rid of you, no doubt.” He brushed the cigarettes off of his head.

“Aw, you’re no fun, Zoro. I only got to five!” Luffy said, pouting.

Sanji arrived and after giving Nami a chocolate sundae, he noticed the cigarettes on the floor. He felt his pockets. “Who took my smokes!”

Luffy laughed and chucked the box of the remaining cigarettes at Zoro’s head. “Zoro did!” he said, breaking free from Zoro’s hold..

“Lies,” Zoro said and stuck out a foot, tripping Luffy.

Nami chuckled to herself as she ate the chocolate sundae Sanji made and watched the captain get berated by the cook. How they had gotten so far with such a mischievous captain who made silly choices was beyond her. But she wouldn’t change a thing.
