There were two facts of life that Naruto Uzumaki knew to be indisputably true in the pirate world.

1. The pirate world was ruthless and cutthroat, every person for themselves. It had been this way for as long as it had existed. Even if Naruto and his crew personally didn’t agree nor willingly go along with it.
2. Naruto Uzumaki’s greatest enemy was Sasuke Uchiha. And if Sasuke’s behaviour was anything to go by, the feeling was mutual.

For once in his life, Naruto wanted to break a promise.
